Day 7

Into Spain

rain 8 °C

It was overcast when we awoke this morning and we thought it would stay dry, but alas by the time we had finished breakfast it was pouring down and out came the wet weather gear! It's gone midnight now and it's still raining. So much for the rumour about the rain in Spain falling mainly on the plain!

Our final few miles in France were only slightly tarred by an idiot tailing us through a town and overtaking in gaps that weren't there. Needless to say we retaliated but unfortunatley Ed dropped something at a roundabout and we had to go back and pick it up.

Anyway, Spain arrived with nothing more than a new speed limit sign. We took an amazing ride (depsite the rain) along the Coastal road to our lunch spot, seved by a rather curt waitress. The only other people in the place were glued to sport on the telly and I think they actually lived there.

Snowy landscapes followed (!!) and a seemingly never ending sucession of connected towns full of nothing but derelict factories and warehouses and high-rise apartment blocks.

Despite the ferocious winds we arrived in Santander reasonably early, but spent the next 2 hours looking for a bloody place to stay! We're none too impressed with the place actually (it's a bit of a dump) or the people (all miserable except our jolly hotelier) or the weather. Still, spirits are high and Portugese hospitality awaits!
